Outtakes

There have, of course, been some mixups, some mistakes and some miscommunication. So far, everything has been fixed and we have been on the same page, for the most part. A couple of the funny things that we have had to work on together: the retaining wall and the brick on the front of the house. We didn't discuss the retaining wall at all. We knew it was there and that it would be bricked, but we never saw a picture/drawing/design for it. So, imagine my shock when I walked up to see this.

The wall is beautiful, but the uneven steps just about drove me bonkers.
After a quick talk with the builder, they changed it and this was the next version.
Where the arrow is, we've asked them to raise it 3 bricks so the drops are even.

A couple of days later, Jason took the girls for a ride in the Jeep and he called me a couple of minutes after leaving the house. He said, "We have a situation." He turned the camera on and showed me the house. I think my eyes bugged out of my head. Whyyyyy is there a huge hip on the side of the house?? It's just a wall, nothing behind it, so I'm not really sure what the thought process was for the brick mason to do this huge angle when the drawing has barely a curve at the bottom. Thankfully, they have fixed it. I haven't seen it up close yet (it's SO muddy), but I can tell it's gone.

Trim

July 3, 2020 This week they're working on trim. Jason says the doors have made the biggest impact for him. It's really looking like a house! We laughed because they had "Corona" written on all the walls. Apparently that means "crown" so it was indicating where the crown molding would be. Also, there was a Corona bottle on the floor. How fitting.

Marital opportunity for growth

June 28, 2020 In an effort to keep it real, I'd like to introduce you to the only argument Jason and I have had over this whole ordeal. When we entered in to the building phase, many people warned me that it would be a strain on our marriage and it really hasn't been. Probably because Jason hasn't had many opinions. ha! He's pretty much said "I trust you" over and over, so I do what I want. Well, we went to discuss how the back porch would be poured and he and the project manager thought a rounded patio would be nice. I said I preferred clean lines (always right angles, not curved). I prefer clean lines for multiple reasons, but one is that furniture placement is difficult in circles and I just think more can be done with a square than circle. Jason thought the round patio looked more custom (he's probably right on that).  I didn't have a big opinion on it (at least I didn't think I did) so they marked it and we went on. *To be fair, it was a bi...
