Decisions Decisions

I know many people are so overwhelmed by the process of choosing their finishes, but I was so excited about it! I knew what we like and prefer. I knew what our budget was, and I was pretty determined to stick within that budget, while remembering what is most important *hint: it's not the cabinets or the hardware.... it's the fact that our family will be here, together*
The designer in me had already prepared with multiple inspiration photos and things written down. When I showed up to meet with the Scotch Homes designer, Bee, I was ready to get down to business. I showed her what I liked and we got to work. She picked up quickly on my style (I like to think of myself as a cozy minimalist). I insisted on staying in budget and we worked pretty quickly to make our decisions.
Here's what we chose!
White shaker cabinets for the perimeter cabinets in the kitchen

Black pulls

We chose a natural stain on the island and a black vent hood. Here is our inspiration picture:

This will be the backsplash
Carrara Versailles Quartz in the kitchen

Tile for master bath and girls' bathrooms: in the master the tile will run vertically (as shown) and in the girls' bathrooms, it will run horizontally.

The penny tile will be on the floor of the master shower and the white tile will run vertically in the shower and near the tub.
Black cabinets, granite and tile for the master bathroom
Hardwood flooring (left)
Carpet for upstairs bedrooms
Exterior brick, stone, gutter, trim, garage door

How fitting.

Marital opportunity for growth

June 28, 2020 In an effort to keep it real, I'd like to introduce you to the only argument Jason and I have had over this whole ordeal. When we entered in to the building phase, many people warned me that it would be a strain on our marriage and it really hasn't been. Probably because Jason hasn't had many opinions. ha! He's pretty much said "I trust you" over and over, so I do what I want. Well, we went to discuss how the back porch would be poured and he and the project manager thought a rounded patio would be nice. I said I preferred clean lines (always right angles, not curved). I prefer clean lines for multiple reasons, but one is that furniture placement is difficult in circles and I just think more can be done with a square than circle. Jason thought the round patio looked more custom (he's probably right on that).  I didn't have a big opinion on it (at least I didn't think I did) so they marked it and we went on. *To be fair, it was a bi...
