Chicken feet

July 12, 2020 We went to the house Sunday and everything looks great. We walked outside to check on progress and found a HUGE swarm of flies. The guys have left a lot of food out over the last 7 months, so I wasn't too surprised, but this was more flies than I've ever seen in one place. Look what I discovered. Ew. That's a chicken foot.

Trim

July 3, 2020 This week they're working on trim. Jason says the doors have made the biggest impact for him. It's really looking like a house! We laughed because they had "Corona" written on all the walls. Apparently that means "crown" so it was indicating where the crown molding would be. Also, there was a Corona bottle on the floor. How fitting.

Handprints

June 29, 2020 We knew from the beginning that we wanted to put our handprints in the concrete somewhere. I don't ever want to move again and I hope and pray that we are in this home when our girls bring home husbands and grandkids one day. I love that our handprints are there and we can look at them for years to come. The crew began pouring concrete at 5:30 am. *Our poor neighbors are going to be so over us* They told us to come over mid-morning to put our hands in the concrete. Well, you know, Jason works. So... mid-morning wasn't really an option. We did go as soon as he got off work, which was right after lunch. The places we thought we wanted to put our hands in were already too dry, so we opted for right on the back porch. I LOVE how they turned out. It was almost too dry, so we barely got them in the concrete, but they're there!

Marital opportunity for growth

June 28, 2020 In an effort to keep it real, I'd like to introduce you to the only argument Jason and I have had over this whole ordeal. When we entered in to the building phase, many people warned me that it would be a strain on our marriage and it really hasn't been. Probably because Jason hasn't had many opinions. ha! He's pretty much said "I trust you" over and over, so I do what I want. Well, we went to discuss how the back porch would be poured and he and the project manager thought a rounded patio would be nice. I said I preferred clean lines (always right angles, not curved). I prefer clean lines for multiple reasons, but one is that furniture placement is difficult in circles and I just think more can be done with a square than circle. Jason thought the round patio looked more custom (he's probably right on that).  I didn't have a big opinion on it (at least I didn't think I did) so they marked it and we went on. *To be fair, it was a bi...

Concrete.... alllllll the concrete

June 28, 2020 One of the things the builder prepared us for when we started this process was the amount of concrete it would take to pour all the way back to our home from the road. It was worth it to us to be tucked back in the woods. I definitely didn't prepare myself for HOW MUCH concrete that would actually mean. I'll post picture and then let you guess how much. *hint, it's likely more than you're guessing* They lined the driveway... and then we decided we wanted it wider. So they lined it again. *I bet they hate us* **To be fair, they said they would consult us first, but they didn't. So.... I don't feel too guilty.** Front walk From the right side of the house, looking toward the street. Back of the house We don't like it. They're working to see what can be changed. It's uneven and steep. We are asking for another step/landing to be added. We will see what they come up with.  Master bedroom (on the right) and w...

Cabinets!!!

June 26, 2020 The cabinets have been delivered and it feels like Christmas morning. It took all my restrain to keep from breaking in to all those boxes!! Kitchen cabinets Upstairs bathroom and laundry room cabinets We were super excited to see them installed. I think this has been my favorite part of the build so far. It makes every room seem more defined. Kitchen Upstairs laundry room Maebry's vanity (Lucy's is just like it) Master bathroom Adelaide's vanity (Julie's Is just like it) This isn't really a picture of the cabinets, but it's where my kitchen sink will be and I love that I can look out the window.

Basketball court

June 24, 2020 Jason and the project manager measured out what would be needed for Lucy's basketball court. *It's not a full court, but will be enough for a three-point line and key. She's excited. If you need her, she'll be here. Always* Jason with perfect form. :) Also, check out that mud. Let's have a moment of silence for our shoes and floor mats.
